Fly Me to the Moon

I came across the above picture of air hostesses in the 1960s. Apparently the uniforms were designed by Emilio Pucci for Braniff Airlines (which confuses me as the plane has PSA on its tail). This impressed me enough and then I learned that Alexander Girard designed some of their planes!
Not so sure about this space bubble though - it was meant to protect them from the rain.

Not sure about the particulars of this cabin photo but I particularly love the bored looking girl on the bottom right:
Ahhh yes, a time when stewardesses weren't flight attendants.
ReplyDeleteThose uniforms are so sweet! Have you ever seen Catch Me If You Can? Its a great movie and takes place in the 60's. You can see similar outfits, just not as outrageous!
ReplyDeletethat is too cool. i wish i could fly that airline :) looks so comfy and stylin'!
ReplyDeleteWow... No mistaken what decade this was from. That is just outrageous. And I wish I could get my hands on one of those bubbles too...
ReplyDeleteSometimes I feel like a moondoggie...so I will follow you...OK?
ReplyDeleteAmber - Yes I have seen it and liked it a lot!
ReplyDeleteSophie - That would be lovely - woof!
Hey!
ReplyDeleteLong time, no comment. Sorry about that. My life has been a bit topsy-turvy, as of late!
Anyway, prepare yourself. I'm about to "GAY IT UP", again!... Oh. My. Gawd. I am LOVING that photo of the stewardess in her space bubble rain helmet! I haven't seen anything THAT awesome in quite a while.
SUPER groovy post, here, as usual! :)
Glad you like :)
ReplyDeleteFeel free to 'gay it up' here anytime!
And as for your life being topsy-turvy - that sounds about right for a life under the pop circus big top ;)
Wonderful photos and adorable blog! You've been so kind to post on mine occasionally so I had to come over for a visit. I'm glad I did. I'll add you to my blog roll.
ReplyDeleteI love vintage airline design. Just look at the interior of that funky plane! Honestly, I wanted to be a flight attendant when I was a kid (although they were called "stewardesses" back then). I think it was really just because I like the uniforms.
