What's the Plan, Stan?
I may have mentioned before that England isn't really the place to be for the mid century architectural styles I go for. They do exist but land and housing is at such a premium that they are few and far between and seem to go for exorbitant prices.
I've started thinking about the possibility of building our own home. Of course, this is just an idea in embryo and I haven't really looked into it but I'm wondering if it could be cheaper. I have no idea what the going rate for an architect is but I found there are already plans out there on the internet.
I adore the house above but these two aren't so shabby either and very different to standard house fare in England.
These plans are available at the US based site Family Home Plans for about $500 but there are many more there. My mind is ticking over...
We are in the process of building our own mcm too. It's going to be a very slow process because we don't have pocket-loads of $$. I'm curious about the building permit process in England. Here in California we have to pay $15-20,000 up front for the permits. Ouch. I'm going to go check out the plans you posted. I'm fairly certain here, we can build it ourselves for cheaper. Hope I don't eat my words.
ReplyDeleteAlas I dwell in a tiny apartment, so this is really foreign to me. Very nice to look at though.
ReplyDeleteOooo ahhh, I'll take house #2!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't hurt to do research, and ask, and get estimates...
At least then, you will know!
I like these. I hope building works out for you. I've often thought about building down here in Chile as well. It's just those pesky pesos keep getting in the way.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting for you! Your dream will come true. Keep going.

Thanks for all the well wishes but believe me this is nowhere near close to happening yet. We have £0 to deposit but hope to start saving next month (after my birthday).
