Those Summer Nights...

I want my summer nights to look like this.

High (school) Fashion

I came across these pics a while ago (via Miss Moss). Photographer, Arthur Shatz, took his camera to a high school in 1969 and now we are able to marvel at the time capsule images.  The photo above is my favourite. I love her whole look, as well as the girl behind her in the dress, but that hat is to die for.

Here are some more highlights:

This one time at band camp, I wore a groooooovy outfit.
I adore the pattern on this maxi dress.

I would so rock this look. I have been actively searching for red bellbottoms for some time now.

Woah!  She's funky and she knows it.

I'm swooning over these dresses and necklaces. Not sure I could pull of the harlequin tights though.

Well, hey there - come over and join us in fashion corner!

If you'd like to see more you can go to the LIFE photo archive hosted by google.  (Select 1960s and search for Arthur Shatz.)  I'm going to nosey about the archives and see what else I can come up with.

That Doll

I''ve never seen an episode of 'That Girl' but I'm still aware of its existence, largely due to countless references in other programs.  For a while now, I was on the lookout for cool paper dolls because I remember enjoying them as a child although I don't remember much about them.

These scans of the 'That Girl Paper Doll Book' from 1967 are available from Teri Pettit's Paper Doll Land.  I'm gonna print them out and relive part of my childhood in a much, cooler way than I ever did the first time.

All 9 pages available here.

Town

I came across this gorgeous Lisa Jones silk screen print via Pinterest (I'd repin all your pins if I didn't stop myself, Jill Browning!).  I love the use of one feature colour.  It reminds me of some of the illustrations in the mid-century nursery rhyme book I picked up from a car boot sale a few years back.

Titled simply, 'Town', it is available through Soma Gallery.  It's inspiring me to do some designing again (as soon as I find the time).

R.I.P Davy Jones

I was so sad to hear the news of Davy's death this morning.

I had just pulled out of the driveway on the way to work - what a crappy way to start the day.

Readers of my blog would be aware of my Monkee love.  Just last year I blogged about going to see them in concert (minus Mike Nesmith).  I am so, so glad I did.

Below are some great shots of Davy I have found on the net and a video about their 1967 visit to the UK.

Ace Venturo

I meant to blog about this fab little pad ages ago.  It was pinned to pinterest which led me to the tuovinen.net site which held the original 1971 brochure!  Designed in Finland as an easily transportable modular building system, it unfortunately appears to have flopped.  I'm not sure how this happened - it has a SAUNA, people!

There are also pictures of one which has survived til today (albeit used for a different purpose than it was originally intended).

Spend Moolah at Mooza

Another one of those things I would LOVE to have but don't need - the decor letters from mooza.  I also think the male/female WC symbols are tres funky:

They are made with retro wallpaper on an acrylic base and sealed with a thick resin coating. Nice one!

These ones give me a bit of that tiki feeling:

Hangin' Bright

This hanging pendant lamp is so lovely.  I found it on eBay where it went for £100.  It doesn't appear to be vintage but I have yet to find one anywhere else.  Please let me know if you spot one...

Merry Christmas!

A cool yule to you all!

Adling a Laugh

I was alerted to this gorgeous Jonathan Adler spoon rest by Retro To Go.    I love the shape, I love the colours and I love the pattern.  It is available in green, pink/orange and blue HOWEVER... £38, Mr Adler?  Surely, you jest?

I played 'Guess the Price' with my husband and his friend. After much discussion about what a spoon rest was and who would need one, the top estimate was 'a tenner' (£10).

I perused the 'new' section and found this funky elephant butter dish:

A steal at £68!

But the craziest of all was the x-bench in vice tangerine:

Take a wild guess before you read on...

Did you guess £645?  Probably not.

The write up tickled my funny bone - "You would be mad not to have two X-Benches under a console or opposite your sofa".  Really? Surely buying ONE at that price would be mad?

All available at Jonathan Adler UK.

Shelf Control

I've been trying to determine the best way to display my expanding tiki collection.  I need some kind of shelving but do I want bamboo or wooden?  And if wooden, do I go for the darker woods (or stains) or white as in keeping with the rest of my flat.  Either way, I think tiki mugs look best when there's lots of them all squished together... so I better keep on collecting!

In other news, my pictures are now finally on the wall in my lounge room and we have our gorgeous tulip chairs giving even more space age funk to the place.  I'll get around to posting pictures 'someday'.

Kaj of Tea?

These gorgeous Kaj Franck kettles are on eBay now and I want them all.

And then I'll have this amazing set of enamelware pots to match the last kettle, thank you very much.

Ring-a Ring-a Rainbow

I had been after a set of vintage drinking glasses for a while but not found quite the right thing (at the right price).

A very thoughtful friend of mine bought me this set of rainbow stripe glasses as a small house warming gift when I moved.  She always puts so much thought into her gift giving and these were just perfect for me!  Exactly what I'd been looking for with that colourful retro look and the right size - not too big, not too small  (there are a LOT of small vintage tumblers or shot glasses out there).

If you want a set, UK peeps, you can still get them for a very reasonable price at Tesco.

How have I been away for so long?
I know I still haven't posted the promised pictures of the new place but every time I get the inclination, it's a mess!  However, things have been moving on and we now have a wardrobe!  I'd like to say things are so much better now that I have one but I haven't got around to organising what should go where - a job for this week I believe.

Also, I am so pleased to announce that I have finally purchased some tulip dining chairs!  One of my very first posts (back in February 2009!) was about this chair and soon four of them will be in my home to address the  “ugly, confusing, unrestful world resulting from the slum of legs underneath typical chairs and tables" (source).

Despite a variety of cushion colours to choose from, I've decided to go with the seemingly standard red cushion on white chair.  This will go well with my beloved Woodstock poster and funky Carltonware cruet set as featured in previous posts.

FlowerDoggie

Screeeee!
How adorable is this stuffed daschund?  My birthday is coming up and I've put my order in.
"But where would you put it?" my husband cries...
"Anywhere and everywhere..." I reply.

This li'l doggie by Alice Apple may be completely unnecessary but every time I see him he makes my heart leap.
Fingers crossed, he will be mine.

These cute little guys are available in other patterns too from Alice Apple's etsy shop

Have you ever wanted something you know you don't need and shouldn't have?  What am I thinking? Of course, you have!  So tell me what your latest unnecessary want is and feel free to link!

PS - I'm finally re-homed after what I have dubbed the worst move ever.  I promise to give details eventually.
